Microwave Mentality

According to the Urban Dictionary a Microwave Mentality can be defined as having the attitude if something can't be done in 5 minutes or less, it's not worth doing.

We want everything done NOW. We want everything fixed NOW. If it requires anytime or effort we have come to believe, erroneously so, that something must be wrong with the person, item or method.

My toe hurts -  give me a pill.

I broke up with my boyfriend  - give me a pill.

My engagement ended  - give me a pill.
My marriage ended a give me a pill.

My child has no behaviour  - give them a shot.

I want to lose weight  - suck my fat out.

Putting energy and effort into the desired goal just cannot work. I need to do it now and I want it now. Is it any wonder there are so many unhappy, unfulfilled people walking around?  If it takes longer than a day it is not working, on to the next drug, or diet or guru or person.

Therapy sessions can be for an extended period of time - (it takes time and that requires effort) -  give me the quick fix, the easy way out. Why talk when you can take a shot or a pill.

We as a people need to realize that just like a Microwave can make you sick so to can the Microwave Mentality. All these quick fixes we are so desperately seeking have no long term curative effects. They may for a short time give a momentary relief. Ultimately however we will have to engage the consequences for years to come if we do not soundly address the cause rather than the effect.

The  Microwave Mentality the quick fix is slowly but certainly destroying our ability to cope by teaching us everything can be fixed with a pill or shot. It is making clones and zombies out of us. Robbing us of your ability to think and reason.
